Telling Stories• Creating Worlds
Born in the Indonesian tropics, raised in the Manhattan jungle. Gypsy soul with ninja aspirations.
Naomi was born in Indonesia—to odd soul mates: a Javanese countess and palace dancer and a quixotic, New Yorker, poet/activist dad—and moved to NYC when she was eleven. Naomi wears many hats - writer, editor, teacher, art director and event planner - tied by one common denominator: she tells stories.
Writing and Editing: Naomi is a freelance writer for publications including VICE, Motherboard, i-D, NYLON, Billboard Magazine, The Hollywood Reporter, The Parisianist, Brooklyn Magazine and MTV International. Naomi also offers writing services for social media, web content, press releases, and marketing materials for various businesses, including Kopi Kopi Restaurant (NYC), Stern School of Business (NYC), Ink.ed MFA (NYC), Papaya Playa Project (Tulum, Mexico), Colombia Fashion Week (NYC), Kathmandu Valley Preservation Trust (NYC + Nepal), JoyoNews (Indonesia + NYC) Arcadia Books (NYC), ALIOMI (NYC) and more. An MFA candidate at NYU's Graduate Creative Writing Program, Naomi is currently tapping at the keyboard toward completing her first book.
Teaching: Naomi has taught Introduction to Creative Writing: Poetry and Fiction at NYU's College of Arts and Sciences. Naomi taught and mentored students at NYU Stern Business School, in particular SSP (Social Solutions Project Lab) and SolutionsU students, where she helped them refine their writing skills and develop their own new pro-social start-up businesses that create true shared value. She has been invited to speak on panels at Ashoka's AshokaU Exchange in Washington D.C. and Nexus Global Youth Summit in NYC and was the recipient for the Iowa Arts Fellowship, Hertog Fellowship and Nancy Lynn Schwartz Prize for Fiction, Glimmer Train Honorable Mention, Fish Publishing Short List, among others.
Event Planning: Naomi has natural skills for event planning and likes to put them to use by freelancing as an event coordinator. Services include: social media and PR strategy, entertainment, food, beverages, venue, sponsorships, strategic partnerships and more. Naomi has planned dozens of 400+ person events, including the Grand Opening of Kopi Kopi, ALIOMI, Ink.ed citywide Mixed Genre, Citywide MFA Reading Series, Workshop and Anthology, Colombia Luxury Fashion Week, AshokaU regional convening, among many others. She has served on the Steering Committees for Young Audiences and Ballet Hispanico.
Art Direction + Location Scouting: Scouted for "creating worlds" and finding great locations on her Instagram feed (@naomibishop), Naomi has been hired for various photo and video shoots in fashion, travel and hospitality and - offers social media takeover services for businesses looking to expand their reach. Clients include ADIDAS China.
